The link above is to a well written web site on the origins of the American 
Porch. I thought it would be of interest to everyone discussing this issue of 
visit access and front porches. It is a completely neutral look and links the 
development and decline of the front porch with the sociological history of our 
country. I think we could all benefit from this step back and broader look at 
the issue.
